On behalf of my entire family—and most importantly, my father Stefanos Telidis—I would like to personally thank the doctors and nursing staff of your hospital for everything they have done over the past 12 years to help him fight a devastating illness that, thanks to your efforts, we have managed to turn into a chronic condition to this day.
First and foremost, I would like to thank the thoracic surgeons Dr. Panagiotis Sympsiris and Dr. Ioannis Voskas for the care and respect they have shown to my father throughout the years, especially during critical moments requiring difficult decisions. They never gave up. They fought time and again, stepping in when others gave up. These are, above all, compassionate people and exceptional physicians who, through their professionalism and love for their fellow humans, have made it possible for our father to still be with us today.
I also wish to express our gratitude to two of your former collaborators: pulmonologist-tuberculosis specialist Dr. Ioannis Kokkonouzis and internal medicine-oncologist Dr. Sofia Stamatopoulou, for their consistent follow-up and unwavering support throughout all these years of treatment. They helped us catch things early. We are equally grateful to the current treating physicians, Dr. Epameinondas Samantas (Head of Oncology) and Dr. Stefania Goura (Medical Oncologist), who have shown us that humanity and empathy must precede any therapy. When a patient feels supported emotionally, every treatment becomes more effective. This is what your hospital's physicians have succeeded in doing for our family over the past 12 years—giving us hope and strength to keep going.
I must also acknowledge your hospital's oncology nursing staff for the care and kindness they consistently show. Their smiles are often the most powerful medicine of all.
Finally, I want to thank radiologist Dr. Stavros Papakostas, who has personally overseen my father's case from the beginning. His accurate diagnoses have saved my father's life more than once, allowing us to act quickly in situations others might have dismissed.
Unfortunately, his latest follow-up indicates that we must prepare for a new battle. Yet we remain hopeful, thanks to Dr. Papakostas' swift diagnosis and the immediate response from Dr. Sympsiris and Dr. Voskas to arrange necessary testing, so that on Monday the oncology board—led by Dr. Samantas and Dr. Goura—can determine the best course of action.
As a family, we have complete trust in the aforementioned doctors and in your hospital itself, which is state-of-the-art in both technology and infrastructure. That's why we've remained loyal to you for so many years. "You don't change a winning team."
