Profile
Efthymia Kontela is a Consultant in Internal Medicine with extensive experience in emergency medicine, research and teaching, with a strong belief in interdisciplinary collaboration and respect for each patient’s needs.
She holds a Medical Degree (1996) and has been board-certified in Internal Medicine since 2005. Since then, she has been working at Metropolitan Hospital and, since 2018, serves as Head Consultant in the Emergency Department. She has a strong interest in Emergency Medicine and Bioethics, combining prompt patient care with principles of humanism and medical ethics. She coordinates multidisciplinary teams, providing comprehensive care for acute and chronic patients, while running her private practice in Piraeus.
She is currently completing a MSc in Bioethics (Democritus University of Thrace), focusing on the connection between medical practice and ethics. She has participated in research protocols, publications and presentations at Greek and international scientific meetings. She has taught at Nursing Schools and, since 2023, she has been serving as Clinical Co-Lead at the University of Nicosia Medical School.
She is a member of scientific societies including the European Atherosclerosis Society, the Hellenic Obesity Society and the Hellenic Society of Internal Medicine, and continuously attends training programmes in new technologies, special education and medical coding.
