The Breast Center of Metropolitan Hospital is equipped with the state-of-the-art Selenia digital mammography system, manufactured by the American company Hologic, which has been awarded by Frost & Sullivan for its pioneering technology.
The Selenia digital mammograph features:
- A top-tier amorphous selenium digital detector that directly converts X-rays into digital signals, without any intermediate energy conversion or signal loss
- An ideal resolution of 70 microns, which, combined with a specialized image processing algorithm, ensures early detection of microcalcifications at a much earlier stage than any other digital mammograph
- The highest possible MTF (Modulation Transfer Function, a measure of system resolution) of about 90%
- Innovative compression paddles with a unique tilting capability, allowing uniform and painless compression of the breast across its entire surface
- A patented honeycomb diaphragm that reduces radiation dose
Additionally, the Breast Center operates the specialized Multicare breast biopsy table, manufactured by Hologic / Lorad. This system allows for biopsies to be performed outside the operating room, without the need for a scalpel or anesthesia, enabling patients to return to their daily activities within hours.
