When and why this test is performed:
- In thyroid patients scheduled to receive calcium treatment who have already undergone surgery:
The uptake scan is used to identify any remaining tissue. - In patients undergoing treatment for hyperthyroidism:
The scan helps determine the thyroid's iodine uptake capacity and assists in planning the appropriate therapy. Hospitalization is not required.
