Operating primarily as a surgical center, Metropolitan Hospital could not but have one of the most modern operating rooms in Europe.

The Surgical Unit consists of 10 operating rooms for all medical specialties, and equipment that allows up to 10 surgeries to be performed simultaneously and without interruption.

Being fully aware that infections are a surgical scourge, we have designed the operating rooms impeccably, selecting the most up-to-date and suitable materials, so as to limit the risk of infections developing and spreading.

Specifically, the movable walls are made of vitreous enamel, to ensure 100% bacteriostaticity. The fact that they are movable also means that they do not need to be torn down for any maintenance work or repairs; they only need to be removed and then placed back again.

Each room has positive air pressure and 24 air changes per hour, a value far beyond international standards, which require 17 air changes per hour. Another innovation is the coating material used on the Surgical Unit’s outer surface walls. It is a special type of rubber that does not require painting, is cleaned easily and provides excellent soundproofing.

Note that the Surgical Unit has been designed in a unique way, with the sterilization area located just below the operating rooms. Access to and from this area is possible only via two elevators, located directly opposite one another. One is used to transfer used surgical instruments to the sterilized washing and cleaning area, while the other is used to transport sterile instruments from the clean sterilization area to the Surgical Unit.

We also take pride in our Hospital’s operating tables. They are voice activated and surgeons may place them in any position with a simple voice command.

There is also a broadcast-ready video system installed in the surgical lights of each room, allowing any surgery to be recorded or broadcast directly worldwide.

Our staff consists of doctors of all surgical specialties and fully trained nurses, making us one of the finest surgical units in Europe overall, on alert 24/7 to manage any incident or emergency.

Patients are transferred to and from the operating room via two elevators, exclusively used for this purpose.

The Surgical Unit walls are made of vitreous enamel, to ensure 100% bacteriostaticity.

The equipment in each of the 10 operating rooms is a point of reference for any modern operating room. Every room has triple medical gas outlet plates and a telescopic tower for the anesthesiology device descending from the ceiling. It is a latest generation anesthesiology device, unique in Greece.

The vital signs monitors, digitally connected to the Hospital’s network, enable two-way communication with each monitor in the Hospital. This way, surgeons can be operating on one patient, while at the same time monitoring another patient hospitalized on the same floor. Moreover, there is no longer the need for anyone outside the operating room to enter during an operation just to view the patient details on the monitor.
