Metropolitan Hospital operates a regular Pediatric Gastroenterology Clinic where patients are monitored on an outpatient basis. At the same time, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Hospital Pediatric Department, patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal diseases who require inpatient observation and treatment are admitted and treated.

Pediatric Gastroenterology

The full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are carried out at the Pediatric Gastroenterology Clinic: diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies of the digestive tract (polypectomy, removal of foreign bodies, hemostasis in acute hemorrhage, banding/sclerotherapy of esophageal varices, dilation of esophageal strictures, placement of percutaneous gastrostomy tube), esophageal and rectal manometries, 24-hour pH measurement, wireless capsule endoscopy and percutaneous liver biopsy). These procedures are performed at the Hospital’s Endoscopy Unit in the presence of a pediatric anesthesiologist. The majority of the procedures do not require hospital admission; they are performed under anesthesia without intubation, a fact that significantly reduces one’s hospital stay (typically, our pediatric patients are discharged 2 hours after the procedure).
