DIAGNOSTIC LABS

OUR OBJECTIVE

The Labs receive samples (body fluids or other materials) from patients (inpatients, outpatients or from collaborating entities), they perform the respective tests depending on the accompanying order, they check the correctness of the results and they forward them to the ordering departments. The results are always available to the departments, patients and administration to clarify any query regarding the test results, the applied diagnostic techniques and the patients’ further diagnostic investigation. The entire process is computerized using an independent IT system, which manages the sample identity using a barcode (positive sample ID), the digital signature of the results, the online transmission of the results and the continuous internal quality control:

• Given that they operate in continuous shifts, an internal quality control program is followed for the proper certification of the various methods and instruments (analyzers) (pursuant to control terms of internationally renowned independent manufacturers).
• They participate in external quality control programs (Greek and international), so that the issued results are fully consistent with the results of other, similar certified laboratories, and so that the EU guidelines on the organization and operation of diagnostic laboratories in member states are observed.

EQUIPMENT

We have procured the most globally contemporary, largest and fully automated analyzers for all the Lab departments, many of which are installed for the first time in Europe. Due to the rapidly evolving technology, which establishes them obsolete within 2-3 years, the manufacturing companies have undertaken the upgrade and renewal of equipment. Two analyzers have simultaneously been procured for each group of tests from different, non-collaborating suppliers, which use different methods of analysis, so that borderline results can be verified with complementary techniques.

CAPACITY

Maximum number of tests that can be performed in the existing area with the existing equipment: 6,000-8,000/day for 400-900 samples/day.

The Blood Bank meets our patients’ transfusion needs 24/7. For this purpose, the Blood Bank:

• Maintains
• Gives blood and blood components from the collaborating Blood Bank Center (Tzanneio Hospital, Piraeus)
