The Pediatric Clinic of Metropolitan Hospital has been operating since 2001, offering specialized and comprehensive care for children from infancy through adolescence. With experienced pediatricians and highly trained staff, we care for every young patient with love, safety, and professionalism.

Since 2008, Metropolitan Hospital has operated a model, fully integrated a Radiotherapy Center, capable of delivering all modern radiotherapy techniques. Advanced radiotherapy plays a crucial role in cancer treatment, and technological progress offers significant hope for curing many patients, allowing for precise targeting of radiation while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues.

Metropolitan Hospital has established a state-of-the-art Center for Radiotherapy Oncology, comparable to the most advanced international centers, providing the full spectrum of cutting-edge treatments for oncology patients.

The Breast Center of Metropolitan Hospital has been operating since 2014 as the first fully integrated center in Greece dedicated exclusively to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of breast diseases.

It functions as a “One-Stop Breast Unit”, where women undergo advanced imaging tests (Digital Mammography, Tomosynthesis, High-Resolution Ultrasound, Elastography) and clinical examination by specialized breast surgeons. When necessary, immediate and painless biopsy is performed for rapid diagnosis.

The Center operates two closely interconnected departments that work seamlessly together:

The Metropolitan Hospital Orthopedic Clinic operates 24/7. Aided by the latest technology, it treats the entire range of emergency and chronic orthopedic conditions, implementing the most advanced medical techniques. All types of long bone fractures are treated using intramedullary nailing.

The Sports Injury & Arthroscopy Department offers large and small joint endoscopy services, using modern equipment and video.

The Orthopedic Clinic treats all chronic degenerative diseases of the joints using latest generation arthroplasty techniques.

Following a comprehensive evaluation of the patient’s cardiovascular health, final recommendations are provided by a team of physicians for the prevention of cardiovascular complications (e.g., diabetologist, cardiologist).

At the Diabetes Center, the following services are provided:

• Detection of prediabetes, a pre-disease “silent” condition with a prevalence of 25–30%, which precedes diabetes and is associated with a 40% increased risk of fatal events. Preventive medical support is offered to manage this condition and prevent the onset of Type 2 Diabetes and cardiovascular complications.
• Investigation of cardiovascular complications, which occur four times more frequently in individuals with diabetes than in those without.

The Neuropsychology Department provides comprehensive assessments to support diagnosis and treatment of patients with neurological disorders.

Clinical neuropsychology focuses on the relationship between brain function and behavior. The clinical neuropsychologist applies specialized knowledge in evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating patients with neurological, medical, neurodevelopmental, and psychiatric conditions, including: Dementias, cognitive impairment, traumatic brain injuries, brain tumors, intellectual disability (IQ assessment), behavioral disorders.

The neuropsychologist uses standardized psychometric tests to examine cognitive functions and create a detailed neuropsychological profile highlighting patient strengths and weaknesses. This information is crucial for accurate and timely diagnosis and for designing and implementing appropriate therapeutic strategies.

Metropolitan Hospital boasts a model and fully-equipped Neurosurgery Department, staffed by experienced medical and nursing personnel, that is open to patients for the treatment of any problem or disorder.

Services Offered

Our Hospital performs the entire range of neurological surgical procedures. It performs surgical procedures relating to disorders of the brain and the intracranial arterial tree, pituitary disorders, as well as skull base disorders. It also performs procedures relating to spinal cord diseases and specific surgical procedures, such as microvascular decompression surgery for trigeminal neuralgia.

Metropolitan Hospital has developed a fully equipped Ophthalmology Clinic, organized according to the standards of leading international eye centers. Pulmonology has always been — and remains, especially with today’s advances — a leading medical specialty with both a strong clinical and highly specialized laboratory profile. According to recent data from the World Health Organization, approximately 60% of the general population either suffers from a diagnosed chronic respiratory disease or experiences persistent symptoms (such as cough, shortness of breath, or sputum production) linked to the respiratory system.

Active and passive smoking, air pollution, obesity, diet, lack of exercise, long working hours, poorly ventilated indoor spaces, artificial air conditioning, biomass burning, climate change with rising heat and humidity, allergies, infections, frequent travel, and increased life expectancy leading to an aging population — all these factors significantly contribute to the morbidity of the lungs and respiratory system. Furthermore, advances in diagnostic methods and longer survival of patients with chronic illnesses compared to the past have inevitably led to an increase in the number of people living with chronic respiratory disease.

Conditions such as bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep apnea syndrome, lung cancer, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, and chronic respiratory failure are now very common. These require accurate diagnosis, personalized approaches, evidence-based treatment, and regular follow-up. It should also be emphasized that the lungs are frequently affected in other increasingly common conditions such as autoimmune, oncological, cardiovascular, metabolic, hematological, and neurodegenerative diseases, often resulting in chronic pulmonary syndromes. Additionally, drug- and therapy-induced pulmonary toxicity must not be overlooked.

Beyond chronic conditions, acute respiratory diseases are also highly prevalent, including pneumonia and other bacterial, viral, or fungal infections, pulmonary embolism, asthma attacks, COPD or pulmonary fibrosis exacerbations, pleuritis, acute respiratory failure, sudden dyspnea, acute cough, chest pain, and hemoptysis. According to National Emergency Services data (2017), 30% of patients urgently transferred to public hospital emergency departments present with acute respiratory conditions or acute exacerbations of chronic respiratory diseases.
